A personal note from Paul
Creator of MagicTrickFinder
Hey fellow magician,
If you can't be bothered to read through all this text, I don't blame you — go ahead and sign up below. You can always come back to this intro anytime via the Pricing link in the menu.
I built MagicTrickFinder because I was tired of endlessly scrolling through forums and catalogues trying to find the right trick for a gig. I wanted something that actually understands what I'm looking for — "something visual with cards for a close-up restaurant set" — and just gives me great options.
But it's more than a trick finder. You can use it to discuss performance styles, brainstorm routine structures, explore techniques at your level, workshop patter and scripts, or even pitch your own trick ideas and find out if something similar already exists. Think of it as a knowledgeable magic friend who's always available to chat.
My day job is in IT, so I combined that with my love of magic to create this tool. It's a labour of love for the community — not a startup, not a business trying to squeeze money out of magicians. Just a fellow performer who thought this should exist.
Under the hood, MagicTrickFinder has a huge knowledge base of magic effects — thousands of tricks across cards, coins, mentalism, stage, close-up, and more. The AI chat doesn't just keyword-search — it actually understands what you're describing and matches you with tricks that fit your style, skill level, venue, and audience. It remembers your preferences across conversations, gives you personalised recommendations, and can even point you to where to buy the tricks from trusted dealers. Ask it to help you plan a 20-minute parlour set, suggest a closer for your card act, compare different approaches to a mentalism effect, or check whether your original trick idea has been done before.
What about AI costs?
The chat is powered by AI models through OpenRouter. You create a free account there and add credit on a pay-as-you-go basis. I expect $10 of credit will last weeks or months depending on how much you use the system and which model you choose. Since this is quite experimental at this stage, I'd love to hear how it works for you.
When you first sign up, you get a free 24-hour trial — no credit card, no API key needed. Just create an account and start chatting immediately.
If you find it useful, I hope you can support it. If not, please tell me what you'd like to see changed — I'm always listening.
— Paul
